Responsibilities
- Safely operate a variety of trucks including tractor-trailers, Flatbed trailers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and forklift-equipped vehicles to transport freight within designated local routes.
- Load and unload cargo accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper securing of freight to prevent damage during transit.
- Navigate route driving using GPS and maps to meet delivery schedules while adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after trips; report any mechanical issues promptly to maintenance teams.
- Maintain detailed logs of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and hours of service in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate delivery times and resolve any route or delivery issues swiftly.
- Follow safety protocols diligently, including proper handling of refrigerated trailers, tanker loads, or specialized equipment like forklifts when necessary.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in truck driving with a focus on local deliveries; prior delivery driver experience is highly valued.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the truck types operated (e.g. Rolloff, flatbed).
- Skilled in operating manual transmission vehicles and familiar with various truck configurations such as flatbeds, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks.
- Knowledge of load securing techniques and freight handling procedures; experience with forklift operation is a plus.
- Strong understanding of traffic laws, safety regulations, and best practices for commercial driving.
- Ability to perform routine vehicle inspections and basic maintenance checks independently.
