What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forklift Operator/Material Handler position at Midwest Pipe?
Duties
- Safely operate forklift trucks such as lift trucks, Hi-Lo, clamp trucks, and reach trucks to load and unload shipments.
- Manage inventory using warehouse management systems (WMS) and barcode scanning tools to track materials accurately.
- Pick orders efficiently using order picker equipment and manual handling techniques to meet shipping deadlines.
- Load and unload goods from trucks, ensuring proper placement on pallets or storage areas.
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and perform basic repairs or notify maintenance for any issues with forklifts or other machinery.
- Maintain accurate shipping & receiving records, ensuring all documentation aligns with safety standards in production and warehouse operations.
- Assist with inventory management by conducting regular stock counts and organizing materials for optimal warehouse distribution.
Skills
- Proven experience operating various material handling equipment including forklift (lift truck), reach truck, pallet jack, Hi-Lo, clamp truck, and barcode scanning devices.
- Strong understanding of warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory control procedures.
- Knowledge of warehouse safety protocols such as OSHA standards and forklift safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling tasks safely while adhering to safety standards in production environments.
- Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and verifying shipments accurately.
- Experience in shipping & receiving processes along with materials handling best practices.
- Familiarity with warehouse distribution workflows and the use of heavy equipment operation for efficient logistics.
