Medical Record Technician (Release of Information Specialist)

Midwest Medical Records Association is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Medical Record Technician to support our Release of Information (ROI) operations within a local suburban hospital setting. This entry-level role serves as both an ROI Specialist and front-facing representative, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant processing of medical record requests.
This position operates in a highly visible, patient-facing environment and requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and strict adherence to confidentiality standards.
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Work Location: On-site (Hospital setting)
Dress Code: Business Casual
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and internal stakeholders requesting health information
- Process Release of Information (ROI) requests in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies
- Review and validate documentation, including authorizations, Power of Attorney (POA), subpoenas, and court orders
- Accurately retrieve patient records using hospital and provider systems
- Ensure all disclosures are complete, accurate, and quality-checked prior to release
- Manage a high volume of incoming calls, including voicemail follow-up, with a focus on timely resolution
- Provide clear, professional communication and support to patients and customers
- Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental operations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior administrative, healthcare, or customer service experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment
