What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiber Network GIS Specialist position at Midwest Fiber Networks?
Position Summary
The Fiber Network GIS Specialist will maintain MWFN’s system of record and be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining maps, drawings, or other records of MWFN’s facilities.
- Utilize network GIS technology to store, analyze and manage data that has been gathered from field surveys and other legacy records
- Work within MWFN’s system of record (Vetro) software
- Responsible for creating, manipulating and editing spatial data as obtained from various sources including CAD drawings, GPS data, as-built drawings, historical paper maps, and handwritten schematics or survey notes.
- Create and update circuits and fiber documentation including splice documentation.
- Analyze utility maps, sketches, field photographs, and tabular data
- Provide support to design engineers, project managers and technicians
- Maintain project drawing files, drawing library, and associated records
- Participate in hands-on data collection
- Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable
- Associate Degree in GIS or equivalent industry experience
- 5 years of experience in drafting preferred
- 5 years of experience with interpreting utility, topographic, street or profile maps
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Experience with GIS software
- Working knowledge of splicing documents/splice matrix’s preferred
- Demonstrated skill in the use of AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, GPS handheld systems, Google Earth, and other software as necessary
- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as technical specifications and construction prints
