Midwest Cards is looking for a motivated and people-focused HR Generalist to join our growing team in Columbus, Ohio. As a 50 person organization, we are at an exciting stage of growth — and HR is at the center of it. Refractors, Inc. is a multi-brand sports trading card & memorabilia services company. We provide services to card collectors, hobbyists & investors in multiple aspects of the collectibles industry. Our retail store, Midwest Cards, serves the public in the entertainment hub for Columbus sports arenas. The office and shop are located in the Arena District, near the Nationwide Arena, the new Crew Stadium, and Huntington Park.
In this role, you will be a trusted resource for employees and managers alike, handling a broad range human resources functions including recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, and HR operations.
This is a full-time salaried position onsite in the Arena District in Columbus, Ohio. The HR Generalist maintains administrative HR duties and reports to the Chief of Staff.

Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Coordinate full-cycle recruiting for a variety of roles, including job posting, sourcing, screening, interviewing coordination, and offer extension.
- Partner with hiring managers to develop accurate job descriptions and define candidate profiles.
- Maintain applicant tracking system (ATS) records and ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the hiring process.
- Administer employee benefits programs including health, dental, vision, and 401(k), serving as a liaison between employees and benefit providers.
- Manage open enrollment processes and ensure employees have the information needed to make informed benefit elections.
- Maintain timekeeping accuracy to keep payroll on track.
- Ensure company policies and practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and ensure timely data entry for all personnel changes.
- Stay current on HR trends, legal changes, and best practices, proactively recommending policy updates as needed.
- Maintain and optimize data integrity, ensuring accurate reporting on headcount, turnover, tenure, and other workforce metrics.
- Assist with HR project management, including policy rollouts, system implementations, and organizational initiatives.
- Coordinate with payroll to ensure accurate processing of new hires, terminations, status changes, and timecard exceptions.
Required
- 1–3 years in an administrative position. HR experience in a generalist or similar broad-scope HR role is ideal.
- Experience supporting recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and/or benefits administration.
- High degree of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification, or active pursuit thereof.
- Experience working in a small to mid-sized company (20–100 employees).
- Familiarity with ATS platforms and HRIS systems.
