JOB Summary:
The Alumni Coordinator is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting a dynamic alumni engagement and aftercare program that fosters long-term recovery, well-being, and connection for graduates of The Midnight Mission (TMM) recovery program. Rooted in trauma-informed principles, this role ensures every alumni interaction reflects safety, empowerment, and dignity.
While the Alumni Association board members drive many key initiatives, the Alumni Coordinator plays a crucial project management and facilitative role—organizing, supporting, and empowering the board’s efforts. The Alumni Coordinator holds full ownership and leadership of the Alumni Mentorship Program, ensuring it aligns with trauma-informed practices and delivers meaningful, measurable outcomes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Alumni Engagement & Aftercare
- Develop and manage a comprehensive alumni engagement plan rooted in trauma-informed values of safety, trust, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural responsiveness.
- Create and implement alumni communication strategies, including email newsletters, SMS updates, and social media outreach in collaboration with the Marketing team.
- Conduct outreach to program graduates at 7, 30, 60, and 90 days post-graduation, using a compassionate and non-intrusive approach.
- Maintain the alumni database, including emergency contacts and family connections (where appropriate).
- Design and administer alumni surveys to gather input, assess needs, and refine services.
- Promote the alumni program to current clients through regular presentations and materials that highlight hope, possibility, and the power of connection.
Mentorship & Peer Leadership
- Solely manage and oversee the Alumni Mentorship Program, including mentor-mentee matching, training, and ongoing support.
- Facilitate trauma-informed, boundaries-based training for both mentors and mentees.
- Track mentorship program outcomes and provide coaching and problem-solving support as needed..
Community & Events
- Support the planning and execution of alumni-focused events, including monthly gatherings, service projects, and wellness-based workshops, in collaboration with the Alumni Association board.
- Project manage and coordinate logistics for alumni-led fundraising events and campaigns that support the Alumni Association.
- Lead the Alumni Ambassador Program by recruiting and supporting graduates who wish to share their recovery stories, speak at events, or represent TMM in the community.
- Collaborate with Advancement to support alumni involvement in outreach, storytelling, and fundraising efforts that reduce stigma and build community trust.
Measurement & Reporting
- Track alumni engagement metrics, including mentorship outcomes, event participation, and outreach success.
- Develop monthly reports with insights, trends, and improvement opportunities for alumni programs.
Grow percentage of alumni posting positive Google reviews as a form of lived-experience advocacy.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
- Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of the 12-Step Recovery model, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in addiction recovery services, peer support, or case management.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep respect for individuals in recovery and a strong belief in their capacity for growth and leadership.
- Proven ability to build trusting relationships across lines of difference.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to connect with people in crisis or transition with empathy and professionalism.
- Experience in group facilitation, peer leadership development, or alumni programming.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management.
- Basic graphic design and content writing skills for newsletters and social media preferred.
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities and events simultaneously.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to work onsite and attend events outside of regular hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and TMM policies.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with physical event setup as needed.
