Midlands Kiddie Korral Head Start, Early Head Start, and Childcare is currently seeking to add a Head Start Preschool teacher to our team! The teacher is there to provide quality, comprehensive child development services to preschool children and their families, and encourage parental involvement in educational planning, goal setting, and center activities.

This classroom has 19 preschool age children and is a blended program of community-based and Head Start children.

Some of what you will be doing include: Administer developmental testing programs, and assessments to develop individual learning plans (ASQ’s). Assist other personnel to ensure an efficient and effective work environment. Maintain classroom equipment, work areas, student files/records to ensure availability of items, provide reliable information, and ensure a safe and sanitary environment. Prepare teaching materials Implement indoor/outdoor and quiet/active activities appropriate for age group and actively participate in the learning activities with children. Collaborate with families Develop curriculum in collaboration with classroom team to provide classroom activities and routines that support individual/group needs and/or deliver services in compliance with established guidelines. Conduct conferences to provide information and resources to families on a schedule in compliance with program requirements and/or to partner with families in educational planning and goal setting. Collaborate with Assistant teacher to meet the needs of the family, provide training, and encourage their participation in planning, curriculum development, and classroom activities. Monitor students in a variety of educational settings to provide a safe and positive learning environment. Model conversation, manners, clean-up activities, listening, and everyday interactions to demonstrate appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner. Respond immediately to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Knowledge of age appropriate activities, lesson planning, and stages of child development. Competence in curriculum areas such as music, art, science, literacy, math, and language development. Competence in planning, organizing, scheduling, classroom arrangement and management, staff and parent communications, and record-keeping. Ability to work as a team member. Ability to work effectively with children, families, community members, and staff of diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Educational Requirements: Associate or higher degree in Early Childhood Education with experience teaching preschool-age children or Associate or higher degree in related field, plus 20 credits in Early Childhood Education and 1 school year experience in a preschool classroom or Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Early Childhood Education (PreK – Grade 3) or Early Childhood Special Education, and experience teaching preschool-age children.

Additional Requirements: Complete initial health examination and/or TB screening Complete Criminal Record Check through DCYF. Obtain First Aid and Infant/Child CPR card within 30 days of hiring and keep current. Obtain Food Handler’s Permit within 30 days of hiring and keep current. Attend center meetings and activities, including some evenings.

Working Conditions: Lift and hold children. Lift and move educational materials and equipment up to 40 pounds. Stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and work with children on the floor for extended periods.

Pay Range: $22-27 per hour, depending on Head Start experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
