Position Function/Purpose

  • The security department enforces the provision of Section 21.483 of the Texas Education Code, the Texas Penal Code, and the rules and regulations promulgated by the MISD School Board for the safety and welfare of students, employees, and property.

 

Essential Functions

  • Patrol Midland ISD (MISD) property in a manner prescribed by the Chief of Police.
  • Remain on call as a duty officer and respond to alarms as required.
  • Respond to all alarms and requests for assistance.
  • Prepare and submit written reports regarding activities, incidents, security violations, safety concerns, and other related matters.
  • Apply MISD security policies and procedures in situations involving criminal activity, alarm activations, and emergency incidents.
  • Work cooperatively with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Inspect MISD property for compliance with security and safety requirements and recommend improvements to building administrators.
  • Assist in conducting investigations and preparing written reports of incidents.
  • Work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
  • Develop positive working relationships with students, teachers, and staff to support the MISD security and safety program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Texas Peace Officer Certificate (TCOLE).
  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Be familiar with MISD operations.
  • Possess a valid Texas driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with Midland ISD's vehicle safety and use program.

Requirements

  • Reside within Midland County.
  • Maintain a home telephone.
  • Use and maintain a personal vehicle.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Remain on call when scheduled or requested.
  • Maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Not be on probation for any offense above a Class C misdemeanor.
  • Not have been convicted of a Class A misdemeanor within the past 12 months or a Class B misdemeanor within the past 6 months.
  • Not have been convicted of a DWI or DUI within the past 24 months.
  • Never have been convicted of a felony.
  • Successfully complete a thorough background investigation.
  • Be examined by a licensed physician, psychologist, psychiatrist, or other qualified professional and be declared physically and mentally fit for appointment.
  • Never have been discharged from military service under less-than-honorable conditions.

Regularly required to lift or exert force of up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Regular attendance required.

 

 Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Occasionally required to travel to facilities within the district. May be required to work after school and weekends.
