Job Description

 

Performs the essential duties and responsibilities and the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of assigned patients and nurses. ED Flow Coordinator is responsible for the efficiency and safety of patient flow through the Emergency Department. Contributes to team retention and promote an environment of trust as well as a leadership champion of the ED patient throughput metrics and quality improvement initiatives. Responsible for coordinating department functions with the operations of other hospital departments to maximize patient flow and inter-departmental efficiency. Consistent with the direction from the Nurse Manager, works to enhance quality and customer service. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary.

 

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE

Full Time, 6:00 PM - 2:30 AM

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

· Coordinating with Charge Nurse, work to enhance the throughput, quality and customer service in the ED.

· Ability to assess, project, and plan for patient needs.

· Ability to make appropriate decisions exercising independent judgement.

· Communicate effectively with patients and families, unit staff, physicians and other departments.

· Provide a safe environment for patients, families and co-workers.

· Incorporate continuous performance improvement recommendations into clinical practice.

· Supports and practices in accordance with Hospital policy, procedures and protocol.

· Willing to work a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of the unit.

· Must attend 90% of unit-based meetings unless approved otherwise.

· Provide mentoring and support for peers.

· Intervene when needed for patient satisfaction or safety issues as they arise. Escalate to Nurse Manager when needed.

· Facilitate movement of patients through the treatment process.

· Ensure quality patient care and compliance with legal requirements.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Minimum of 2 years of full time Emergency Department experience required

· BSN preferred

· Certification required within 6 months

· Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The individual must be able to: Ø Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
