Summary
Contact trucking companies, freight brokers, and shippers/receivers to arrange authorized third-party motor carriers to transport freight from pickup to delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Negotiate rates, select carriers, coordinate deliveries and evaluate carrier performance
- Pay attention to detail when reviewing carrier contracts regarding pricing and/or fees
- Develop relationships with carriers, members of Midland’s brokerage team, as well as customers at mills, distribution warehouses, and processors to understand their needs
- Prioritize job responsibilities to accommodate aggressive deadlines
- Take initiative to successfully deal with stress of traffic and weather-related issues
- Communicate with selected carriers by giving necessary details regarding load location, pick-up times, destination location, drop-off times, load size and other relevant information
- Ensure proper documentation for all loads
- Create and post loads in Aljex software and DAT/Freight 360 load board
- Make decisions independently on rate quotes and other load related items, based on company procedures, guidelines and past personal experience
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Occasionally travel overnight to other Midland Davis offices and supplier/customer/freight vendor locations
- Attend industry conferences to network with suppliers/customers/freight vendors
- Attend classes and training to stay up to date on industry standards and practices

Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Preferred experience in booking loads with carriers in a brokerage setting
- Preferred experience using DAT/Freight 360 load board
- Proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and ability to learn/utilize other computer programs
