Key Responsibilities Leadership & Staff Development
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate all kitchen staff across multiple centers.
- Maintain a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and high performance.
- Ensure safe and proper use of equipment while maintaining accurate scheduling, payroll, and staff records.
- Oversee sanitation, safety practices, and daily food production activities.
Menu Planning & Culinary Excellence
- Create creative, nutritious cycle menus with Director approval.
- Maintain standardized recipes and ensure accurate conversion, consistency, and minimal waste (3% or less).
- Direct staff in all aspects of daily meal preparation using food safety standards defined by the Michigan Food Code.
- Evaluate menus regularly and implement improvements based on client feedback.
Catering Operations
- Lead planning, production, and delivery of large-scale catering events while upholding strict food safety standards.
- Coordinate supply purchasing and cost tracking.
Purchasing & Cost Control
- Collaborate with the Food Service Coordinator to monitor food purchasing and control food costs.
- Select equipment and supplies needed to ensure efficient production.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, inventories, and compliance documentation.
Training, Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Develop and deliver safety, sanitation, and nutrition training for all cooks.
- Monitor adherence to food code guidelines through inspections and ongoing safety reviews.
- Maintain ServSafe certification records and ensure all team members meet required standards.
Communication & Customer Service
- Lead communication with cooks, site managers, and program leadership regarding menus, recipes, ordering, and concerns.
- Respond promptly to feedback and support continuous improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years supervisory/management experience in food service.
- ServSafe Manager certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong understanding of culinary arts, bulk food production, and standardized recipe development.
- Knowledge of the Michigan Food Code.
- Proficient with computers (Microsoft Office, electronic ordering systems).
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in a physically active kitchen environment.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and insurance.
