Essential Functions

Under the general supervision of the Activities Director, the head coach or sponsor teaches groups or individuals in the fundamentals of a sport/activity.  This also includes the demonstration of techniques and methods of participation.  The head coach or sponsor also evaluates the participants' strengths and weaknesses to improve the participants’ technique to prepare them for competition or possible recruitment.

 

  • Serve as the chief executive of the activities or athletics program.
  • Evaluate assistant coaches or assistant sponsors.
  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport or activity involved.
  • Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season; organize tryouts for new members, organize summer camps (attend summer performance); attend contests as scheduled; help create all routines used in performances.
  • Communicate with the activities coordinator in multiple ways to keep him/her abreast of issues/concerns/or needs including communications with individuals, team members, and/or parents/guardians/family members when necessary.
  • Help with the organization of fundraising; oversee fundraising that requires students to work a location.
  • Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate; follow school district procedures when purchasing these items.
  • Maintain necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork including waivers.
  • Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport or activity is conducted at all times that students are present.  This includes supervision of individuals and team members.
  • Following all district and related policies and procedures for safety and security.
  • Establish performance criteria and expectations for eligibility in competition and participation in the sport or activity.
  • Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the district.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Coaching certificate required.
  • Prior experience in the activity/sport as a participant or coach, preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Self-motivated to accomplish duties without supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to establish positive relationships.
