DESCRIPTION
Midland Care Connection
Midland Care Connection is a not-for-profit, community-based organization in Topeka, Kansas, dedicated to helping older adults and seriously ill individuals stay independent and supported in their homes. Established in 1978, it offers a full continuum of care, including hospice, palliative care, home health, grief and loss counseling, and its signature PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) program. Their mission centers on "meeting individual needs through innovative care solutions," and they serve people across multiple counties in northeast Kansas.
Hospice House
The purpose is to offer a comfortable, home-like alternative to hospital care for people nearing the end of life. The hospice house provides around-the-clock symptoms and pain management for patients whose needs could not be safely met at home. The Hospice House also supports families by offering respite care and short-term intensive support.
Support Specialist Role
A Support Specialist at Midland’s Hospice House plays a key role in creating a calm, compassionate, and well-coordinated environment for patients and families. The position typically involves welcoming and assisting visitors, answering phones, and supporting clinical staff with non-medical tasks so nurses and aides can focus on patient care. Support Specialists help maintain the comfort and cleanliness of common areas, prepare rooms for new patients, and ensure that supplies are stocked and organized. They also provide emotional support by being a steady, reassuring presence for families, offering information, guidance, or simply a listening ear during difficult moments. Overall, the role helps the hospice house run smoothly while upholding the dignity, comfort, and personal needs of those receiving end-of-life care.
