POSITION:  Assistant Principal 

            

LOCATION:  Middletown High School


BROAD FUNCTION:

This position is responsible for providing building administrative leadership, and oversight and management of staff and

educational programming. In addition, this position is responsible for serving as a liaison between teachers and families,

and maintaining high standards for academic excellence and discipline for Middletown High School.



QUALIFICATION(S):  

  • Minimum Education: Master’s degree in Education or related field required.
  • Minimum Work Experience: Five years’ experience as a teacher required. One year serving in an academic leadership, (coach, department supervisor, etc.) position required.
  • Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid State Intermediate Administration and Supervision certification (092) required. Valid State Driver’s license required.

  • Familiarity with and ability to administer District, and/or building student disciplinary practices required.
  • Ability to attend meetings before and after school hours required.
  • Ability to provide ongoing feedback on student progress to students, parents, and building staff required.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Proactively collaborates with the Principal, department heads, and district administrators to support the implementation of

district-approved curriculum and instructional initiatives.

2. Actively monitors and assesses classroom instruction, providing feedback and support to teachers to improve instructional

quality and student outcomes.

3. Participates in curriculum review, vertical and horizontal articulation, and data-driven instructional improvement processes.

4. Promotes effective use of assessments and data teams to inform instruction and student support strategies.

5. Facilitates professional learning opportunities aligned with school and district goals.

6. Supervises, observes, and formally evaluates certified and non-certified staff in accordance with state law, district policy, and

collective bargaining agreements.

7. Assists in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of high-quality staff.

8. Provides coaching, mentoring, and support to staff to promote continuous professional growth.

9. Addresses performance concerns in collaboration with the Principal and Human Resources.

10. Assists in the development and maintenance of the school’s master schedule, course offerings, and student and staff

assignments.

11. Supports daily operational functions including student supervision, building safety, emergency procedures, and hall sweeps.

12. Oversees student attendance and discipline processes, including investigations, restorative practices, and communication with

families.

13. Manages assigned budgets and ensure compliance with district fiscal policies and procedures.

14. Serves as a liaison to specific grade levels, departments, or programs as assigned.

15. Implements and monitors school-wide behavior and attendance initiatives that promote a positive, respectful school culture.

16. Enforces the student code of conduct fairly and consistently, including conducting investigations, mediations, and

disciplinary conferences.

17. Collaborates with counselors, social workers, and support staff to address individual student needs through intervention

planning.

18. Supervises hall sweeps, student arrival and dismissal, and transitions throughout the day.

19. Coordinates grade-level assemblies, celebrations, and interventions.

20. Maintains frequent communication with parents and guardians regarding student performance, behavior, and engagement.

21. Actively participates in and attend school events, athletic contests, concerts, and performances during and outside of regular

school hours.

22. Serves as administrative liaison for grade-level teams, student activities, or clubs as assigned.

23. Partners with community organizations to support student engagement, attendance, and achievement.

24. Participates actively in the School Leadership Team and district administrative meetings.

25. Models professional, ethical, and equitable leadership practices consistent with Middletown Public Schools’ mission and core

values.

26. Supports school and district initiatives related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and restorative practices.

27. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.

SALARY:  Salary per the MSAA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Grade 9 ($151,600 - $159,568)
