What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trades Assistant position at Middletown Area School District?
Applications are being accepted for a full-time, first shift (Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM) position. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent; a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record for the past three years; and possess or have the ability to obtain a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Public Pesticide Certification #23.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist trades specialists in completing repairs, maintenance, and renovations in the fields of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.
- Perform minor repairs, maintenance and renovations of building interiors, and exteriors, including roofing, ceiling tile, flooring, drywall, doors, keys, locks, hardware, closures, surfaces, finishes, windows, and partitions.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance of the District HVAC/R systems including boilers, chillers, end devices and kitchen and shop equipment. Duties include operational maintenance, filter cleaning or replacement, replacing and adjusting belts, greasing motors and bearings, cleaning heating and cooling coils and condensate lines.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance of the District electrical systems to include electrical distribution systems. Duties include basic wiring; replacement of lights, bulbs and ballasts; and end devices such as fixtures, switches and receptacles. Comply with lock-out/tag-out and arc flash procedures during the performance of duties.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance of the District plumbing systems to include main water distribution, gas distribution and drain waste and vent systems, toilets, urinals, flushometers, sinks, faucets, spigots, water fountains and coolers.
- Perform emergency repairs on an “on call” basis.
- Perform building checks on weekends and holidays to routinely inspect building and grounds for possible safety or environmental hazards and report all findings to the Director of Operations or his/her designee.
- Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas; and spread sand, salt or ashes to prevent slippery steps and sidewalks to include hand shoveling.
- Maintain grounds, play areas, trails, entrances and flower beds for all district facilities to include mowing, seeding, fertilizing, irrigating, trimming/pruning trees and shrubbery, removing leaves and rubbish, weeding and weed removal, and applying pesticides/herbicide under appropriate supervision.
- Perform roof inspections to include removing leaves and debris on a regular basis.
- Setup and teardown all necessary equipment, materials, and supplies for scheduled events within the District’s facilities, sports venues, and grounds.
- Assist with the preparation of athletic fields and grounds, as well as coverage of sporting events on an as needed basis.
- Collect and transport rubbish, recyclables and waste material for disposal.
- Report and correct any dangerous, unsanitary, or unsightly conditions.
- Transport equipment, food, furniture, funds, mail (inter-office and U.S.), packages and supplies between schools, district facilities, businesses, financial institutions, government entities, or vendors on an as needed basis. This will include delivering, loading, unloading, sorting and safeguarding assets.
- Perform custodian duties to ensure clean and sanitary buildings and facilities on an as needed basis.

Pay: $19.07 - $20.42 per hour
