Under the direct supervision of the Conservancy Lands Lead/City Forester, the Conservancy Lands & Forestry – Seasonal position is responsible for operations and maintenance tasks within the City of Middleton.

Job Functions

- Completes tasks associated with seed collection, seeding, cutting and removing invasive species, and applying non-restricted herbicides.
- Maintains trails by brush mowing trails, posting trail markers and boundary signs, and assisting with prescribed burning activities
- Participates in tree maintenance activities including but not limited to planting, pruning, removing, inventory, insect & disease control as part of City Urban Forestry Program
- Completes special projects and other job duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Education and Experience
The requirements listed below are necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
- Must be at least age 18.
- Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license

- Parks and conservancy lands operations and maintenance experience is preferred.
- College-level coursework in Urban Forestry, Arboriculture, Restoration Ecology, or related field is preferred

Knowledge
- Working knowledge of basic lands restoration and forestry methods and techniques
- Working knowledge of commonly used tools and equipment
- Working Knowledge of hazardous work assessments and personal protective gear requirements (PPE).
- Working knowledge of native prairie plants, invasive weeds, and tree and shrub identification
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle to high volume of work, set priorities effectively, and adapt to shifting demands
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, complemented by strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Collaboration skills to effectively work with others, fostering teamwork, clear communication, and creative problem solving
- Ability to perform work duties under general supervision and operate within policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives.
- Ability to follow & carry out oral & written work instructions.
- Ability to understand and apply state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinance to ensure compliance with all work practices
- Ability to demonstrate integrity, honesty, initiative, and respect while maintaining strict confidentiality in all aspects of work
- Ability to comply with all safety, including safely operating necessary tools and equipment, policies, practices, and procedures, and report all unsafe activities or conditions to a supervisor.

- Work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, and lift objects up to [20] pounds.
- Work requires extended periods of standing or walking.
