Role Description The Strength and Conditioning Intern is a full-time, on-site position located in Boston, MA, supporting the physical development and performance of Middlesex School student-athletes. Daily responsibilities include assisting in the design and supervision of strength and conditioning sessions, teaching proper lifting technique and movement fundamentals, and helping student-athletes warm up, cool down, and recover safely. The intern will support sport coaches by coordinating training plans, monitoring attendance and progress, and maintaining a safe, organized training environment. Additional duties may include basic record keeping, equipment setup and breakdown, and contributing to educational materials on topics such as injury prevention, nutrition, and general fitness. The role involves consistent interaction with students, coaches, and staff, and requires professionalism, reliability, and a student-centered approach.
Qualifications
- Foundational knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, including resistance training, speed and agility, and mobility work.
- Ability to demonstrate and coach proper exercise technique with attention to safety and age-appropriate progressions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with adolescents, coaches, and colleagues in a school environment.
- Organizational skills for scheduling sessions, tracking participation, and maintaining training spaces and equipment.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive environment that encourages student-athletes of all backgrounds and ability levels.
- Coursework or degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, Physical Education, or a related field preferred.
- Current or in-progress professional certification (e.g., CSCS, SCCC, USA Weightlifting) is beneficial.
- Experience working with youth or high school athletes in coaching, fitness, or sport settings is an advantage.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
