Job Title: Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor
Location: Bridging Communities Regional Career & Technical Center
Reports to: Executive Director
Job Summary:
The EMS Instructor will be responsible for designing and delivering high-quality instruction to students that meets the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a strong background in emergency medical services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver lessons that align with VDOE and OEMS guidelines and standards
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and attendance
- Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback to improve their skills
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment
- Stay current with changes in EMS policies and procedures and integrate them into the curriculum
- Collaborate with school administration, staff, and community partners to provide a comprehensive EMS program
Qualifications:
- Current Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or paramedic
- Current certification as a current Virginia EC in accordance with Virginia EMS Regulations (insert link)
- Current OEMS provider and educator certification
- Must be eligible for a Virginia state teaching license or provisional license
- Familiarity with VDOE and OEMS guidelines and standards
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities
Working Conditions:
- This is a part-time, 200 day contracted teaching position
- Hours are Monday - Friday 7:30-11am
- Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort in frequent standing, walking, sitting and repetitive motions at the school or department work site daily, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 25 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time standing or sitting. Sensory Requirements: Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination; Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; Most tasks require oral communications ability. Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, playground, classroom, light traffic).
