DEPARTMENT: Academic, Career, and Transfer Advising (ACT)
REPORTS TO: Director, Academic, Career, and Transfer Advising
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides holistic academic and transfer support services to individual and groups of international students.
- Provides in-person and electronic academic advising for current and new international students and communicates proactively with students throughout all phases of the student experience.
- Serves as a back-up Designated School Official (DSO) under the F-1 visa program in accordance with federal regulations.
- Advises international students on maintaining lawful status, including matters related to enrollment and registration, employment authorization (CPT/OPT), international travel, program extensions, reinstatement, and change of status.
- Maintains student files, ensuring timely and accurate updates to students’ records in the SEVIS system in compliance with Department of Homeland Security requirements.
- Assists in planning and implementing orientation programs for new international students.
- Stays current with enrollment and support services for students; provides students with payment-related deadlines and regulations and actively refers students to support services.
- Assists students with program completion, developing short and long-term goals, following the Guided Pathways model with the primary objective of degree completion/transfer to a four-year institution.
- Reviews and maintains student academic files, performs follow-ups, and monitors students’ academic progress.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- One (1) year of experience in student advising, enrollment services, counseling, or financial aid
- Works effectively with people from different cultural, academic, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds
- Must hold U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status to meet federal regulatory requirements for status as a Designated School Official and as required by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of F-1 visa regulations and federal reporting requirements
- Experience as a Designated School Official
- Documented experience in higher education within enrollment management, financial aid, counseling/advising, or other student services capacity
- Bilingual
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong problem solving and organization skills
SCHEDULE: Part-time position, up to twenty (20) hours per week
Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
