Position Summary:
The Lead RI is responsible for the supervision of the dorm, one on one instruction, and guidance related independent living and interpersonal skills. They work collaboratively with the Residential Directors, Dean of Students, Program Coordinator, and Residential Staff to facilitate the individual goals of the students. The RI acts as a mentor, role model, surrogate parent, teacher, counselor, and life skills coach in the areas of social and emotional development.
Primary Duties of Lead Residential Instructor:
•Supervise dormitory at all times (outside of other assigned duties)
•Plan, implement, and co-lead weekly dorm activities that improve social-emotional skills, communication, teambuilding, community service, and recreational activities
•Teach transferable life skills within the dorm setting such as room organization, laundry skills, hygiene, social awareness, appropriate technology use, relationships, communication
•Plan, implement, and teach afternoon elective classes that help students learn a skill or hobby
•Plan, implement, and teach club night classes that help students participate in project-based learning
•Plan and implement weekend recreational activities for assigned weekends
•Complete student check ins, including updating check in logs
•Facilitate student goal setting, including updating goal setting logs
•Communicate with identified parents to gain background information about their child, collaboratively problem solve, and provide student progress
•Update parent phone log and submit to Residential Directors weekly
•Participate in weekly support meeting with Residential Directors, Dean of Student, Counselor, and other staff as needed
•Provide nightly update to Residential Directors
•Twice a year write residential reports documenting student progress
•Other duties as assigned
