JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision the employee is responsible for providing clinical services to Service Members, Veterans and their families (SMVF) and will specialize in treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other forms of trauma (including that from military and/or combat service including Military Sexual Trauma) and Substance Use Disorders. Employee assists with making resource connections for Military Service Members (including Active Duty, National Guard and Armed Forces Reserves), Veterans and their families’ seeking services and trains other staff about those resources, eligibility and how to make those referrals and connections. The employee consults regularly with other staff members about clinical recommendations; participates in scheduled meetings, seminars, and attends and provides in-service training sessions. Employee will work with IT and clinical staff to ensure that all required data is reported via Community Consumer Submission (CCS) and benchmarks are met. Employee must maintain a professional, friendly, helpful, courteous and respectful attitude. Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in contact with staff, individuals being served, families, public, and service providers. Reports to the Mental Health Outpatient Coordinator for the site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides direct clinical services to those with mental health, substance abuse, intellectual disabilities and co-occurring disorders through the provision of comprehensive clinical needs assessments, individual, marital, family, and group therapy and service and care coordination. The priority will be specializing in and providing treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other forms of trauma and Substance Use as well as service coordination for Service Members, Veterans and their Families.
- Collaborates with Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs), Veteran’s Health Administration (VHA) facilities, Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) programs and other external providers to determine SMVFs eligibility for services and assists clients/families with services navigation. Educates other agency staff about these facilities and programs and how to assist SMVFs with determining eligibility and services navigation.
- Connects clients to available community resources to meet their needs; provides information regarding employment opportunities, self-help needs, living alternatives, health care, educational and entitlement opportunities; participates in hospital discharge planning for clients returning to the area.
- Maintains complete, accurate, and current clinical charts and records; prepares various reports and evaluations as requested by supervisor and other agencies; performs routine office scanning; provides outreach and follow up; receives and answers general correspondence and inquiries.
- Offers consultative services regarding mental health, substance use, and intellectual disability issues to referrals and the public.
- Consults regularly with other staff members regarding clinical interventions and recommendations; participates in scheduled staffing and case conferences; attends in-service training sessions within and outside of the Agency; develops and provides seminars and in-service training sessions.
- Employee will work with IT, train clinical staff and will monitor Community Consumer Submission data and ensure that all required data is reported and benchmarks are met (examples include but are not limited to military cultural competency training for all direct services MPNN BH staff, tracking SMVF status of those presenting for services, tracking referral destinations to military/veteran resources, and use of Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale to screen for suicide risk).
Required Education and/or Experience (minimum):
Master’s degree in a Human Services field with an LCSW, LPC, LMHP, or LMHP-E credential.
Experience:
At least two years of documented experience in counseling, program administration, and case management is required. An equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may also be considered.
Essential
- Must pass all required Background Checks.
- Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License with reliable transportation and driving record acceptable to agency insurance carrier.
- Must obtain a TB test with satisfactory results within 30 days of employment, and yearly thereafter as required by licensing authority.

- Lifting, Carrying, and Exertion:
- The employee may moves/transports documents and materials weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally transports supplies weighing 40 pounds across the worksite.
- The employee may lift up to 25 pounds, carry up to pounds, and push or pull up to 10 pounds.
- Manual Dexterity: Requires frequent use of hands and fingers to handle,place and pull materials and operate standard office equipment.
- Travel: Requires occasional travel within 10 counties MPNN BH serves, which may include driving a vehicle.
