The U.S Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Tennessee is seeking experienced, motivated, and prosecution-minded attorneys to join our Criminal Division. This is a continuous announcement used to fill immediate vacancies with multiple cut-off dates. First cut off is Friday December 29, 2025 and as needed until position(s) or need is filled.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

United States citizenship is required.

Hiring for Assistant U.S. Attorney positions is highly competitive. Superior academic credentials, excellent research and writing skills, a demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service. Successful candidates must be computer proficient, capable of doing their own legal research and writing, and self-sufficient in preparing day to day correspondence and pleadings. Relevant favorable experience includes investigating and prosecuting criminal offenses.

Responsibilities:

As a Criminal Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, attorneys are responsible for the prosecution of a variety of violations of federal law including, but not limited to, organized violent crime, narcotics trafficking, immigration offenses, firearms violations, domestic and international terrorism, national security offenses, civil rights, white collar offenses and health care fraud. AUSAs are responsible for legal research and writing, directing investigations, case development, and case presentation in criminal cases. To be an effective prosecutor, the AUSA must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Employment with the U.S. Attorney's Office offers a unique and challenging experience for the highly motivated and talented attorney who is committed to serving justice.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.
