Midcoast Maine Community Action is seeking a compassionate, motivated Early Head Start Teacher to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who values supporting infants, toddlers, and families through high-quality early education. As part of our center team, you will create a nurturing learning environment, implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, conduct assessments, and foster strong relationships with families.
Responsibilities
- Implement a developmentally appropriate, center-based program for infants and toddlers.
- Conduct ongoing observations, assessments, and individualized activities to support developmental growth.
- Plan, organize, and execute daily lesson plans that align with program goals and requirements.
- Create and maintain learning areas within the classroom to promote exploration and engagement.
- Build strong, professional, and caring relationships with children.
- Partner with families through meetings and regular communication; encourage parent participation.
- Serve as a role model for parents in supporting children’s learning and development.
Qualifications
- Infant/Toddler CDA or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of infant/toddler development and early childhood best practices.
- Ability to establish trusting, respectful relationships with families and colleagues.
- Experience working with young children (experience with low-income families preferred).
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., bend to a child’s level, and sit on the floor.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license, adequate automobile insurance, and reliable transportation; must comply with MMCA safe-vehicle policies.
- Successful completion of all required background checks (criminal, CPS, sex-offender registry, and motor vehicle record).
- Physician’s health statement, immunization records, and TB screening prior to start date.
- Physical ability to meet classroom demands, including lifting and floor-level interaction with children.
Compensation & Benefits
Rate of pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
