About the role:
The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the CFO in managing the company’s accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with GAAP, and reinforcing internal controls. This role oversees day-to-day accounting functions, leads the month-end and year-end close processes, and ensures proper cash flow projections. The Assistant Controller plays a key leadership role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting strategic decision-making, and driving process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the CFO in overseeing all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and project accounting functions.
- Lead and manage full-cycle month-end and year-end close processes; review reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Review and approve complex journal entries, accruals, allocations, and adjustments, including project-related costs, revenue, and overhead.
- Maintain and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in compliance with GAAP.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Oversee account reconciliations (bank, intercompany, sub-ledgers); ensure discrepancies are identified and resolved timely.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management in coordination with the CFO and leadership team.
- Support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance, including sales/use tax and construction-specific requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in accounting workflows, reporting accuracy, and system utilization.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support the accounting and finance team and overall company objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA is helpful.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP.
- Proficiency in accounting software.
- Advanced Excel skills for financial analysis, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working cross-functionally with leadership, auditors, and external partners.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive financial information.
Experience:
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience managing month-end/year-end close processes, financial reporting, and general ledger oversight.
- Strong hands-on experience with accounting practices.
- Experience supporting audits, budgeting/forecasting, and process improvement initiatives.
Salary : $100,000 - $130,000
