Position: Senior Quality Assurance Manager
Location: Birmingham, Alabama area
Reports to/Supported By: Site General Manager/Corporate Dir. of FSQA
Wage: Salaried Exempt
Job Overview: The Senior Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring product safety, quality, and compliance at the manufacturing facility. This role leads site-level quality and food safety programs in alignment with corporate standards and SQF requirements. The Senior QA Manager partners closely with Corporate Quality Assurance, ensuring consistent implementation of company-wide programs while supporting plant-specific needs. The position drives continuous improvement and fosters a strong food safety culture across the facility.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
· Provide overall leadership for product safety, regulatory oversight and quality systems at the facility
· Manage, develop and train the site QA staff
· Maintain and ensure compliance with the site SQF Manual and corporate food safety standard, and provide cross-departmental technical guidance, support and expertise
· Update, implement and enforce food safety and quality programs (SQF, HACCP, EMP, allergen control, supplier approval, test-and-hold program, etc.) applicable to the operation.
· Monitor plant compliance with internal and external standards, customer requirements, and corporate expectations.
· Develop new product specifications, procedures, and QA documentation that meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
· Serve as the primary regulatory liaison between the site and Corporate QA, ensuring alignment with company policies, initiatives, and reporting requirements
· Stay current on regulatory updates and ensure site compliance with applicable FDA regulations and GFSI standards
· Track, trend, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality, food safety, customer complaints, and non-conformances
· Conduct gap analysis, root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions based on data, audits, and deviations
· Drive continuous improvement, optimization initiatives and support implementation of corporate quality programs at the site level
· Lead internal, customer, and third-party audits, including SQF certification audits
· Promote a strong food safety culture across all departments through training, communication, and leadership
· All other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
Must be able to work full time in the Birmingham, Alabama area.
· BS in Food Science or related field required. MS preferred
· 3 years as department level manager.
· 5 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment
· GFSI experience required. SQF Practitioner preferred
· HACCP, PCQI, Food Defense, Food Fraud certifications
· Strong knowledge of FDA regulations, HACCP, GMPs, and food safety systems
· Experience working within nutritional, IMS and customer platforms and software
