Hearing Itinerant Teacher
Job Description
Reports to: Executive Director or Assistant Directors
Contract Length & Wage Status: 10 months with an annual salary based on the MVSEA salary schedule
Primary Purpose: Provide direct and consultative educational services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing across cooperative member districts. Support access to instruction, communication, assistive technology, accommodations, and individualized programming so students can participate and make progress in the general education curriculum and their IEP goals.
Qualifications/Previous Experience:
- Experience in pediatric or school-based services is preferred
- Experience writing and implementing IEPs
- Experience working collaboratively with a wide variety of professionals and parents
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in Sign Language
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students who have been diagnosed with hearing loss and/or a moderate to severe range of disabilities, including Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, Emotional Disabilities, and Multiple Disabilities, including students who are medically fragile
- Monitor the educational and audiological status of students with failed hearing screenings.
- Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and monitoring students’ measurable goals/objectives in collaboration with other team members.
- Employ a variety of learning modalities to support students' diverse needs and learning styles.
- Apply principles and methods of developing an instructional and behavioral management program.
- Knowledge of academic subjects and the impact of hearing loss on accessing the general curriculum
- Work collaboratively with the Speech/Language Pathologist or AT Specialist to support students with AT equipment and maintenance.
- Ability to use own transportation to travel to sites throughout the MVSE Cooperative

- Provides feedback and effectively communicates with students and parents
- Follow the Board of Education, district, and building guidelines and procedures

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computers and peripherals
Posture: Frequent sitting and standing, bending/stooping, transitioning from floor to standing, pushing, pulling, and twisting
Vision: The abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Motion: Frequent movement throughout the work environment, repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, use of a mouse, and occasional reaching
Lifting: Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours
Mental Demands: Ability to solve complex problems in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret instructions provided in written and oral form; ability to work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.
