What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Mid Valley Family Foods LLC?
Essential Functions:
- Approaches work with a Continuous Improvement (CI) mindset, and engages in Mid Valley Family Foods Mission Statement to identify value, prioritize resources and maximize improvement opportunities. § Effective leadership for Accounting team members, including Accounting, Costing, Accounts Payable and general administrative functions.
- Serve as the Finance Leader to partner with the divisional leadership team, including the General Manager and operations functions. § Responsible for the monthly financial reporting process, ensuring accurate accounting in compliance with US GAAP.
- Responsible for the performance management, ongoing coaching and hiring of the employees within the department.
- Develops and coordinates annual department budgets, including capital and cash flow. § Oversee inventory management and monthly physical inventory assignments and calculations.
- Prepares monthly reports of results, monthly forecasts, annual operating plan, and strategic planning. § Responsible for internal controls over all aspects of financial reporting.
- Analyzes and accurately reports current month’s financial results within the applicable format and time requirements, including monthly internal business reviews.
- Collaborates with department leadership to support the overall financial goals and objectives of Mid Valley Family Foods.
- Submits all financial transactions, transmissions, and reporting on a timely and accurate basis.
- Work closely with the operations group to ensures accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigates and explains book to physical adjustments. § Work closely with the operations group to analyze potential excess and obsolete inventory items monthly.
- Reconcile all inter-company accounts monthly.
- Analyze internal controls to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded and results are accurately reported.
- Assure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Policies. Resolve questions of GAAP and internal controls with Director.
- Implement and maintain comprehensive internal controls consistent with company-wide policies to ensure appropriate use and protection of all assets.
- Review all plant capital requests and ensure accuracy of investment justification.
- Lead SKU rationalization review and recommendation for the business.
- Complete special projects, duties and assignments, as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field or commensurate training and experience. 10 years of operational and management experience, 5 years of that experience in the dairy (fluid milk) industry preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- High level of proficiency with computer skills, including strong knowledge of spreadsheets and email.
- Strong math and communication skills, excellent work ethic.
- Excellent accounting and financial management ability.
- Strong bias for action and drive for continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and persuasion skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.
- Comfortable interacting with all levels of management, including corporate leadership.
- Seven (7) plus years’ progressive accounting or finance related experience within a food or manufacturing environment.
Preferred:
- Dairy processing/manufacturing experience a plus.
- Working with Microsoft ERP and Great Plains general ledger software a significant benefit.
- CMA, CPA or MBA a plus
Salary $130,000-$160,000
