Clinical Support
Essential
- Carry out routine patient observations (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height/weight/BMI) and record results accurately.
- Prepare patients for examination, assist with minor procedures under supervision (e.g., wound dressings, removing sutures/clips, ECGs).
- Perform point-of-care tests/near-patient testing (e.g., urinalysis, blood glucose, cholesterol) where trained. National Association of Primary Care 1
- Undertake venepuncture and specimen collection for laboratory tests (once competent).
- Administer routine vaccinations/immunisations under authorised protocol (if trained and permitted).
- Provide health promotion and patient education (e.g., smoking cessation, weight management, chronic disease monitoring).
- Act as a chaperone when needed. Ensure all clinical work adheres to infection-control, health & safety and Data Protection regulations.
- Update and maintain patient records and electronic health-care systems accurately.
- Manage clinical stock and equipment: monitor levels, restock, perform routine safety checks. National Association of Primary Care
- Assist in audit, quality improvement projects and implementation of new protocols within the practice.
- Work as part of the team to ensure effective patient flow, liaise with reception/administration regarding appointments, referrals, results. Communicate with external services and agencies as required.
Essential
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (or willingness to work towards).
- Previous experience in a primary care, GP or healthcare environment desirable.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage with patients sensitively and empathetically.
- Competent in using basic IT systems and electronic patient records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Qualification/certificate in healthcare assistance, clinical skills or medical administration.
- Training in phlebotomy, ECG, spirometry, wound care, vaccination administration.
- Prior experience of health promotion/chronic disease support. Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, equality & diversity in healthcare settings.

- Flexible and willing to support the practice across different areas as required.

- Typically, 37.5 hours per week (or pro-rata for part-time), Monday-Friday with occasional early/late clinics as required.
- Based at the Midsuffolk practice site; some travel between sites may be required depending on demand.
- Subject to enhanced DBS check and occupational health clearance. Appraisal and development reviews annually; expectation to maintain CPD and relevant training updates.
