Mid-States Companies is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Estimator to support grain handling and material handling projects by preparing accurate and timely cost estimates. This role works closely with the Sales Operations Manager and collaborates with Business Development, Sales, Procurement, Engineering, and Project Management teams to develop competitive proposals and ensure a smooth transition from project sales into execution.
The Estimator plays a key role in gathering project requirements, coordinating with vendors and subcontractors, and developing pricing aligned with project scope, specifications, and customer expectations. This position also supports continuous improvement of estimating tools, processes, and project delivery success.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Pricing
- Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates based on project scope, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
- Develop competitive pricing aligned with project execution and customer expectations
- Identify potential risks, gaps, or inconsistencies in project scope or pricing
- Assist with change order pricing and estimate revisions as needed
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors, subcontractors, and equipment suppliers
- Communicate with suppliers to ensure complete and accurate pricing coverage
- Coordinate scope alignment and pricing accuracy with external partners
Internal Collaboration
- Collaborate with Sales, Business Development, Engineering, and Project Management teams to define project scope and pricing
- Participate in internal meetings to review project opportunities and align estimating efforts
- Support project handoff by providing estimate clarity during kickoff and buyout phases
Proposal & Design Support
- Assist in developing project proposals and supporting customer documentation
- Support design coordination with internal engineering teams and third-party designers
- Ensure estimates reflect practical, accurate, and buildable solutions
Process Improvement & Administration
- Maintain organized estimating files and project documentation
- Support improvements to estimating tools, templates, and processes
- Assist with maintenance of Sales Dashboards and Sales Reports
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Agriculture, or related field — or equivalent experience
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective communication skills with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in grain handling, bulk material handling, or industrial construction
- 1 years of estimating experience in construction, ag-industrial, or related industries
- 2–5 years of estimating or project-related experience
- Experience working with vendors, subcontractors, and equipment suppliers
- Familiarity with estimating or takeoff software
- Experience with Acumatica ERP systems
- Ability to interpret mechanical or structural drawings in detail
- Understanding of project lifecycle from sales through execution
- Experience supporting proposal development and customer-facing documentation

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
