JOB SUMMARY

Mid-Pacific seeks a progressive educator with professional and educational experience spanning engineering, computer science, and immersive technologies. Faculty at Mid-Pacific are responsible for designing engaging environments that encourage inquiry-style learning, the development of foundational skills, and students' deeper understanding of technology's real-world impact.

This role centers on Design Thinking as a framework for guiding students through the full design cycle, from problem identification to prototyping, iteration, and communication. Engineering at Mid-Pacific goes beyond building a solution: students must understand the global impact and economic feasibility of their work and be able to communicate it effectively to a target audience. This position requires active collaboration across departments and grade levels, and full participation in the school's broader academic community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Teach middle school courses within the Technology & Engineering department, including Immersive Technology and Design Thinking.
  • Apply Design Thinking or similar methodologies to guide students in creating real-world solutions through the full design cycle, including 360° video capture and editing, 3D scanning and printing, LiDAR integration, and prototyping.
  • Introduce students to immersive virtual reality environments and applications, including AR/VR/Mixed Reality, and other emerging technologies.
  • Encourage students to think critically and creatively, and to understand and navigate the complexities of the digital environment.
  • Address diverse learners' needs through various instructional student-centered strategies and assessment tools, which engage students in the learning process.
  • In alignment with the school’s mission and vision, collaborate and co-create meaningful lessons and assessments with other department and technology faculty that address the core concepts and skills as set out in the departmental scope and sequence.
  • Set assignments and post homework assignments weekly on the internet using the school’s information system program.
  • Prepare and administer formative and summative assessments of students’ learning; record results electronically and post student grades electronically on a weekly basis.
  • Maintain effective classroom management, liaising with deans and parents as necessary.
  • Participate in faculty and departmental meetings and attend professional development workshops and educational conferences.
  • Carry out all homeroom / advisory responsibilities.
  • Determine budget needs for equipment and materials for courses taught.

  • Maintain effective and prompt communication with parents and guardians as needed.
  • Provides in-person classroom instruction, supervision, and support to students during the school day.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at work.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Computer Science, Robotics or related field from an accredited university or college. At least two years of teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level. Experience with electronics, 3D printers, laser cutters and other similar equipment.

WORK SCHEDULE

This in-person position follows the academic calendar from August through May. Teachers will have the opportunity to enjoy scheduled winter, spring, and summer breaks for rejuvenation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires frequent walking, including uphill and stairs. The employee daily is required to frequently, unless otherwise noted, walk to and from classrooms or buildings within five minutes, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds (student journals, papers, books, etc.); arrange student desks, furniture in classroom as needed; stand and sit throughout the day for instruction and supervision of students; walk: class to chapel (once a week), walk around the classroom, from classroom to: copier room (frequently), library (occasionally), fields for fire drills (occasionally), to supervise students (daily); occasional bending; frequent reaching when writing on board, while at desk, for phone, to receive student work (this occurs throughout the day). Some climbing of stairs (daily); walking up a slight hill (daily).

On a daily basis employees must frequently problem solve, make decisions, supervise students/classroom management, interpret data, grade, organize, write, plan, and clearly communicate.
