JOB SUMMARY

Provide classroom supervision and basic instructional support to students in Preschool through Grade 5 in an assigned classroom setting. May also serve as a classroom assistant under the direction of a teacher and assist with student supervision and other duties as assigned during the school day

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide close supervision of students and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for students.
  • Maintain an emotionally and physically safe learning environment for students in classroom settings, outdoors, and on play structures.
  • Prepare and organize the learning environment according to the direction of the Head Teacher or Pedagogista to ensure the classroom is ready before student arrival, including the proper sanitation of all learning and play materials.
  • Maintain the aesthetic quality of the classroom environment.
  • Perform instructional and school-related duties as assigned by the Elementary School Principal.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at work.
  • Provides in-person classroom supervision and support to students during the school day.

If assigned to a classroom in the absence of the teacher:

  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the teacher.
  • Record student attendance in accordance with school procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Ensure that students remain engaged in their classwork and activities.
  • Assist with the distribution and collection of any course materials as needed.
  • Permit students to visit the restroom or nurse’s office as needed.

If assigned to a classroom while the teacher is present:

  • Confer with the teacher on responsibilities and support needs during the class period.
  • Check in with the teacher periodically to ensure assigned duties and expectations are being met.
  • When monitoring students outdoors, maintain active awareness of student safety and surroundings at all times.
  • When assisting with field trips or inquiry trips, abide by and enforce all field trip policies and procedures for yourself and students.
  • During lunch periods, assist with the collection, distribution, and disposal of lunches according to Mid-Pacific’s procedures.

SCHOOL SAFETY

  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.
  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately to their Supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years of college experience in Education with a specialization in early learning, child development, special education, Family Resources, or related field is required.
  • Experience in teaching in an early learning setting.
  • Experience in Reggio-inspired program.
  • Must possess and be able to apply his/her knowledge and understanding of progressive education concepts as they relate to preschool and elementary students, and incorporate 21st Century skills and concepts into daily interactions with young children. Must understand the developmental phases (physical, cognitive, social, emotional) of young children.
  • Experience working within a collaborative environment.
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of all pre-employment requirements, including criminal background clearance and TB clearance.

WORK SCHEDULE

This in-person position is on an on-call, as-needed basis, aligned with the academic calendar from August through May. Work hours may vary depending on coverage needs, typically falling within the regular school days, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

On-call Substitute Teachers are scheduled as needed to support instructional coverage and are not guaranteed a set number of hours per week. Assignments generally occur on instructional days and exclude holidays, but may include non-instructional days as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires frequent walking including uphill and stairs. The individual is required to talk and hear, often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee may be required to stand, walk, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Requires close vision.

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis, must frequently problem solve, make decisions, interpret data, organize, speak, write, plan, and clearly communicate.
