POSITION SUMMARY
Performs varied and repetitive tasks to maintain the hospital in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition. Acknowledges and responds appropriately to the hospital's customer relations philosophy, including the five fundamentals of the AIDET program.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Performs cleaning of inpatient rooms and terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares room for new occupant; which includes sweeping, dust mopping and wet mopping floors while maintaining environmental and infection control standards.
Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls of bathrooms of patient rooms and public areas replacing sanitary supplies. Dusts furniture, woodwork, equipment, and polishes and cleans fixtures in utility rooms and bathrooms.
Sweeps, dust mops and wet mops halls, stairways, and public areas and operates mechanical floor cleaners, polishers, and vacuums.
Cleans vents, fans, and other equipment using vacuum machines; cleans fixtures; tops of windows, door frames and high areas using step ladders.
Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials into proper containers. Removes waste and soil linens from work areas and places them in specified bags or containers.
Cleans assigned areas according to MCHS policy and performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education: Preferred high school diploma or GED. Ability to read and write with capabilities of following oral and written instruction. Knowledge of English language is required.
Experience: Preferred housekeeping experience in a hospital setting.
Physical Abilities: Will require stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and at times walking under load. There will be considerable amounts of walking and pushing of objects. There will be substantial amounts of flexing, especially of upper torso. Must be able to use such equipment as mops, buckets, vacuum cleaner, and utility carts.
Work Environment: Work will be in the hospital setting, generally in and around patient rooms. The potential of exposure to body fluids does exist in this job. Assignment may include cleaning of patient rooms, nurses station, offices, waiting rooms, private and public restrooms, ER, lab, G.I. lab, and other specialty areas, as well as handling trash, medical waste, and linen.
