Job Summary:
Mid America Pipe is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Estimator to join our team. This position is responsible for reviewing project plans and specifications, preparing accurate cost estimates, soliciting vendor pricing, and supporting the sales and project management teams in securing profitable work. The ideal candidate will have experience in pipe fabrication, industrial construction, manufacturing, or a related field and possess strong technical and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and customer requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for pipe fabrication, structural fabrication, and industrial construction projects.
- Perform material takeoffs and quantity calculations.
- Obtain and evaluate pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
- Develop labor, equipment, and production cost estimates.
- Prepare bid proposals and supporting documentation.
- Identify project risks, opportunities, and value-engineering options.
- Coordinate with contractors, project managers, engineering, purchasing, and production personnel to ensure accurate estimating.
- Maintain estimating databases, cost records, and historical pricing information.
- Participate in bid reviews, customer meetings, and project handoffs after award.
Qualifications:
- Previous estimating experience in pipe fabrication, industrial construction, manufacturing, mechanical contracting, or a related industry preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, piping isometrics, P&IDs, and project specifications.
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience estimating fabrication hours, welding, fitting, coatings, and material costs.
- Knowledge of industrial piping systems, pressure piping, structural steel, or process equipment.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
