What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Pipe Cutting Machine Operator – Voortman position at Mid America Pipe Fabricating and Supply, LLC?
Mid America Pipe Fabricating & Supply, LLC is looking for a full-time operator for our new Voortman CNC pipe cutting machine.
This position **does not require CNC programming**. Programs will be prepared by our office/drafting personnel.
We are looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined person who can take ownership of operating and maintaining the machine while making sure every piece is set up and cut correctly.
Primary Responsibilities -
* Operate the Voortman CNC pipe cutting machine
* Load and run programs supplied by our office
* Verify the correct program, drawing and material before cutting
* Verify pipe diameter, wall thickness, length and material
* Check cut locations, holes, bevels, angles and pipe orientation/clocking against fabrication drawings
* Properly position and load pipe into the machine
* Inspect the first completed piece before continuing production
* Measure completed parts and verify they meet the fabrication drawing
* Monitor cut quality throughout production
* Change plasma consumables and make normal machine adjustments
* Perform daily, weekly and scheduled preventive maintenance
* Clean, lubricate and inspect the machine as required
* Recognize abnormal machine operation and troubleshoot basic problems
* Contact maintenance, supervision or Voortman technical support when necessary
* Operate overhead cranes and forklifts
* Track production, downtime, scrap and rework
* Maintain an organized and clean work area
* Follow all company safety and quality procedures
Qualifications -
Preferred:
* Experience operating CNC, plasma, laser, machining or other automated industrial equipment
* Strong mechanical aptitude
* Ability to read fabrication/shop drawings
* Ability to accurately use tape measures, squares, calipers and other measuring equipment
* Experience with overhead cranes and forklifts
* Steel fabrication or manufacturing experience
* Basic computer skills
* Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance
* Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
**Voortman experience is a plus but is NOT required. Training will be provided.**
What We're Looking For -
This is not a programming position.
We need someone who will take ownership of the machine and the quality of the parts coming off of it.
The operator will be expected to verify that the correct material, drawing and program match before cutting begins, inspect the first piece, monitor production and stop the machine if something does not look correct.
The right person should be mechanically inclined, comfortable operating computerized industrial equipment and willing to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
**Quality and attention to detail are extremely important. We would rather stop and verify something than produce an incorrect part.**

We are looking for someone interested in becoming our primary Voortman machine operator and taking long-term ownership of the operation, maintenance and condition of the equipment.
Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
