Microsoft is seeking a Hardware Engineer to shape the future of cloud infrastructure. This person will help drive down costs, improve reliability and produce energy efficient hardware to power the cloud. As part of the Datacenter Integration Services Team (DCIS) within Cloud Operations and Innovation, you will work with a small set of systems thinkers who are ready to challenge conventional wisdom and develop breakthrough technologies.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for working across mechanical and thermal aspects of Information Technology hardware and data centers.
- Act as a liaison between Data center and Hardware teams to deploy high quality Information Technology equipment in Microsoft's Cloud environment.
- Write specifications to ensure ITE (Information Technology Equipment) hardware meets Data Center requirements.
- Collaborate with the Operations and Design team to understand issues and influence data center mechanical designs.
- Able to execute instrumentation procedures for thermal/mechanical analysis to run tests in Data Center or lab environment.
- Communicate Data Center issues and ITE (Information Technology Equipment) issues to leadership.
- Deliver results in a highly ambiguous and fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
- Experience with root cause analysis pertaining to ITE (Information Technology Equipment) and Data Center equipment.
- A desire and capability to learn, grow, and develop new skills.
- Understand the design and functionality of our datacenters.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years of technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2 years of technical engineering experience
- OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7 years of technical engineering experience
- Or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5 years of technical engineering experience
- OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3 years of technical engineering experience
- Or Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
Hardware Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
