Job Description:
Microchip Technology Inc. has a Senior Engineer I-Validation opening based in Austin, Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing silicon validation on new 10Base-T1S Ethernet Communication ICs for the automotive and industrial markets. In this role, you will be working with a global validation engineering team as well as Design, Applications, and Test engineers to ensure that the products meet functionality and performance expectations across a range of operating conditions.
Responsibilities:
Develop tests and scripts to exercise and validate the features and performance on new product silicon. These will be used to test and validate all areas of a chip-power, memory, I/O interfaces, registers, RX/TX performance, timers, etc.
Create and debug test setups that include validation PCBs, software, firmware, and various test equipment.
Automate testing to provide reliable and efficient data collection.
Create documentation such as validation test plans, reports, and how-to guides.
Interface with the design, hardware, and firmware teams to confirm expectations and understanding of the chip operation in order to ensure validation requirements are met.
Work with the PCB design/layout team to develop custom validation PCBs; participate in schematic design reviews; bring up and troubleshoot any issues on validation PCBs once they are built.
Perform pre-silicon validation and debug of test programs and scripts using an FPGA.
Work with Design Engineering to bring up new silicon and validate the correct operation and performance of product features.
Work with Design Engineering to debug silicon issues and provide feedback, supporting requests for additional experiments as needed.
Collect validation data over process corners, voltage, and temperature (PVT), compile data reports, and review the results with Design Engineering.
Document and follow best practices.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
4 years experience in IC validation or closely related experience.
Experience with C/C and Python scripting.
Proficiency with industry-standard lab and test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, AWGs, logic analyzers, power supplies).
Ability to methodically debug bench setups, scripts, test programs, and troubleshoot silicon issues during bring-up and PVT validation.
Familiar with test bench equipment communication interfaces such as GPIB, RS-232, TCP/IP, and USB and have the ability to set up and debug test systems using these interfaces.
Experience with automating lab equipment and tests.
Self-motivated, able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Should have a positive and optimistic attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiar with microcontroller architectures and the interfaces commonly found on microcontrollers (SPI, I2C, I2S, USB, MII/RMII).
Experience with Jira, Confluence, Polarion, or similar task management and issue tracking tools.
Experience using source control (Perforce, Git, SVN, SharePoint).
Experience using debuggers and data logging tools.
Experience using and programming thermal forcing equipment.
Experience using and programming robotic handlers.
Experience with soldering and the ability to change basic PCB components or modify circuits as needed for debug and experiments.
History of proactive communication with and support for cross-functional teams such as Design, Product Test Engineering (production ATE), Applications, and Firmware.
Experience working with remote teams.
Experience with schematic review and PCB schematic design using Altium.
