Role Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chemical Engineer or Process Engineer with 5–7 years of industry experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, constructing, and operating laboratory, bench-scale, and/or pilot-scale systems. This role requires a hands-on engineer with the ability to translate conceptual processes into functional experimental systems and provide process insight to support scale-up and optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, construct, and operate lab-, bench-, and pilot-scale equipment for process development and testing
- Perform process modeling, simulation, and analysis to support R&D and scale-up activities
- Develop and execute experimental plans, analyze data, and document findings
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including R&D, engineering, and business operations
- Contribute to process optimization, technology transfer, and scale-up to commercial systems
- Maintain safe lab and pilot plant operations, ensuring adherence to company and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field
- 5–7 years of relevant engineering experience in an industrial, research, or pilot plant setting
- Demonstrated experience constructing and operating experimental systems (lab/bench/pilot scale)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and documentation skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with FactSage for thermochemical modeling
- Familiarity with Aspen Plus or Aspen HYSYS for process simulation
- Experience using LabVIEW for process control and instrumentation
- Knowledge of metals and/or materials processing, thermal systems, chemical reaction engineering, or separations
Work Environment
- In-office computer work (reporting, data interpretation, modeling)
- Hands-on work in lab and pilot plant environments
- Occasional travel may be required (e.g., equipment vendors, scale-up partners)
Pay & Benefits
Pay based on experience
Benefits include paid leave and 100% of the Employee’s premium for dental and vision insurance through Blue Cross/Blue Shield of ND and 100% of the full single rate or ½ of the family rate for health insurance, whichever is greater. MTI matches Employee’s contribution up to 3% of Employee’s gross salary per pay period for retirement through Ascensus Retirement services.
