Director of Strategic Sourcing & Opportunity Buying

Position Overview
We are seeking a commercially driven, relationship-oriented leader with substantial food industry experience to identify profitable buying opportunities, develop strategic manufacturer partnerships, and lead a high-performing team.
This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced professional who understands commercial negotiations, strategic sourcing, and business development. Candidates with backgrounds in food manufacturing sales, strategic sourcing, wholesale distribution, food brokerage, or commodity trading are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Build relationships with food manufacturer executives, including Presidents, owners, VPs of Sales, and National Sales Managers.
- Identify and negotiate profitable sourcing opportunities, including special purchases and excess inventory.
- Evaluate opportunities based on margins, market demand, inventory risk, freight costs, and overall profitability.
- Develop new manufacturer partnerships and expand existing business relationships.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of seven purchasing professionals.
- Travel regularly for manufacturer visits, trade shows, plant tours, and business development.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in the food industry, preferably in manufacturing, distribution, brokerage, or commodity trading.
- Proven commercial negotiation, strategic sourcing, sales, or business development experience.
- Ability to build relationships with senior-level industry decision-makers.
- Strong understanding of gross profit, inventory risk, freight economics, and commercial profitability.
- Demonstrated team leadership and coaching experience.
- Willingness to travel regularly, approximately one-third of the time.

An entrepreneurial food-industry professional who combines strong executive relationships, strategic selling, commercial judgment, and proven leadership. Candidates from the manufacturer sales side are encouraged to apply; traditional purchasing experience is not mandatory.
