Part Time - Nurse Planner

Position Represented by United Association Employees "UAE"

Work Location: Hybrid, combination of onsite/offsite and remote work

Salary Range $68,005-$105,585, based on relevant experience

Summary/Objective:

The Nurse Planner will work under the direction of the Associate Executive Director for Healthcare Practice, Policy & Strategic Initiatives to assist in the planning and implementation of the continuing education program, alongside the AP-PD, which provides members and non-members with education that promotes current, evidence-based practice and education standards of nursing or other healthcare professions.

The Nurse Planner serves in a supportive educator role. The Nurse Planner is expected to be knowledgeable in adult learning and to be able to assess needs; analyze gaps in knowledge, skill or practice; plan and implement learning activities; and evaluate outcomes. The Nurse Planner needs to be aware of changes in the learning and practice environments that affect learning and learning needs and must be supportive of organizational changes that promote implementation of new learning in practice. The Nurse Planner needs to be creative in developing learning activities in modalities that most effectively meet the needs of the target audience served by the Provider Unit.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Functions:

  • Assists in the overall management, direction, oversight and compliance of continuing education in collaboration with the Accreditation Provider-Program Director (AP-PD), as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
  • Adheres to the criteria of accreditation bodies like ANCC or other relevant organizations to ensure educational opportunities meet specific standards.
  • Assesses professional practice gaps, identifying learning needs.
  • Brainstorms and conceptualizes new topics utilizing evidence-based practice.
  • Works collaboratively with content experts and stakeholders throughout the planning, implementation, and evaluation process.
  • Assists in the maintenance of accurate and complete documentation for each educational activity.
  • Creates and implements evaluation strategies to measure the effectiveness of educational activities, including assessing changes in knowledge, skills, or practice.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and execution of the functions of a Nurse Planner as outlined by the ANCC guidelines.
  • Maintains accurate and current knowledge of individual state license regulatory requirements as related to continuing education for licensure renewal.
  • Serves as a liaison for MNA to nursing programs around the state, along with the AP-PD and the AED of Healthcare Practice, Policy & Strategic Initiatives.
  • Assists with the mentoring of nursing students through the advising of the Michigan Nursing Students Association (MNSA).
  • Represents MNA on various councils and committees both organizationally and around the state.

Required education and experience:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a current, unencumbered Michigan license to practice as a nurse.
  • Baccalaureate degree or higher in nursing (BSN or above).
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in the areas of adult education, staff development or teaching roles.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments from inception to completion.
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to input, analyze, and extract data efficiently.

Preferred qualifications/experience:

  • Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or education.
  • Familiarity with the specific criteria of the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
  • Established relationships with nursing programs, external healthcare and labor organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing effective education-based communications for internal and external use.
  • Experience in serving on or working with planning committees and participants.
  • Previous experience as a Nurse Planner for an ANCC provider unit or within an ANCC-approved organization.
  • Proven track record in supporting the labor movement and promoting fair labor practices.
  • Other combinations of education and experience which could provide the necessary knowledge, and skills will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is generally performed in an office setting with prolonged periods of sitting and working on the computer.
  • When necessary, lifting of normal items found in an office setting (boxes of paper, storage boxes, etc.)

Additional Requirements

  • Travel Required:
  • Ability to travel in Michigan, ability to work long, irregular hours according to the demands of the job. Offsite work and overnight travel are required.
  • A valid drivers' license, use of a car for work, and specified automobile insurance coverage are required.
