The individual in this role will have the opportunity to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve commercial-line insurance claims as assigned.
The individual in this role will be expected to work in a hybrid capacity; however, fully remote options may be considered for the right candidate.

The targeted hiring range for this role is $70,490 - $96,976, annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate, as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and / or may be considered for other positions.

What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?
- Handles moderate to high complexity claims within settlement authority.
- Ensures customer service excellence.
- Investigates and reviews policy forms, facts, and documents related to claims to make appropriate decisions on claim resolution, recognizing claim file exposures, and escalates appropriately.
- Establishes and reviews proper reserves for each claim based upon thorough investigation, evaluation, and experience.
- Maintains appropriate reports, ensuring the status of claims is clearly documented.
- Provides direction to outside resources.
- Acts as a resource to other members of the team.
- Makes well-reasoned recommendations to management on claim plan of action.
- Recognizes problems or situations that are new or without clear precedent and makes recommendations to solve problems.
- Finds solutions using a systematic, multistep approach.
- Primarily responsible for developing improvements and innovations to enhance performance.
- Regular contact with customers (policyholders, claimants, agents) as well as regular contact with employees across the organization.
- Regular contact with outside vendors.
- Travel for field work as required (e.g., scene investigations and inspecting property losses).
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate?
- Strong understanding of industry practices, standards, and claims concepts.
- Prior claims experience.
- Ability to multitask and solve problems.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in lieu of degree acceptable.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Analytical with ability to exercise sound business judgment.
- Good time management.
- Customer Service-oriented.
- Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages.
- Knowledge or previous experience handling New York labor law claims.
- CPCU certification preferred.
