Retail Sales Associate- Michigan Mercantile

Michigan Mercantile is looking for a part-time or full-time Retail Sales Associate to join our team!

Michigan Mercantile is a collection of independent retail spaces in downtown New Buffalo, each with its own point of view, product mix, and pace. Across all spaces, the environment is collaborative, fast-paced in season, and rooted in strong presentation, product awareness, and genuine interaction.

Lakeside Goods:

Focused on imported European tableware, entertaining pieces, and distinctive home goods, including ceramics, glassware, linens, serving pieces, and objects designed for gathering and everyday use.

Lake Feste:

Centered on women’s clothing, jewelry, and accessories, with a focus on well-made wardrobe pieces and seasonal layers.

Book~Shore:

New this year, a visually driven bookstore focused on art, design, photography, and publishing, leaning toward oversized, highly visual titles rather than a traditional bookstore assortment.

Beach:

A Seasonal Pop-Up that shifts with the season. Centered on a curated mix of shoreline goods, including striped umbrellas, canvas bags, tailored coolers, and towels, all with a nod to vintage coastal style.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly and provide upbeat, prompt, and professional customer service
• Assist in daily in-store operations and ensure sales goals are met
• Be familiar with story inventory, store layout, and product knowledge
• Track and manage inventory to restock the store when necessary
• Keep the sales floor clean, organized, and visually appealing
• Perform opening and closing duties as needed
• Manage sales transactions and exchanges with accurate and efficient use of the POS system
• Communicate effectively with customers, fellow employees, and store management
• Maintain high energy, professionalism, and positive store culture
• Maintain a professional appearance according to dress and grooming standards
• Perform other relevant tasks as instructed by management and supervisory personnel

Qualifications

• 1 year of retail or high-end sales-related work experience preferred
• Flexibility to work during peak times: weekends, evenings, and holidays
• Excellence in communication, teamwork, and customer service
• Ability to organize and keep the store stocked and clean
• Understanding of inventory and merchandising
• Ability to operate the register, stand, and walk for multiple hours
• Ability to lift 40 pounds
