What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cardiac Sonographer - Pediatric position at Michigan Medicine?
Job Summary
The University of Michigan Congenital Heart Center is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer.
Our Sonographers are highly skilled leaders in their field. As a Cardiac Sonographer with Michigan Medicine and the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, you will work in a dynamic, collaborative lab, and use advanced ultrasound equipment and technology. Responsibilities*
Participate as a member of the pediatric cardiology team performing echocardiograms. Our typical patients are infants and children with simple and complex congenital heart disease. There are also adult patients with congenital heart disease and some non-congenital heart disease patients (primarily pediatric). Opportunity may exist for performing fetal echocardiograms for candidates with previous fetal experience, or with on the job training. This position serves both outpatient and inpatient populations at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and at our off-site clinics.
Other duties include generating preliminary worksheets, maintaining accurate records, completing billing information, maintaining lab space and assisting with research and quality assurance protocols as needed.
Required Qualifications*
The position is full time, and overtime may be required on occasion. Schedule is 8 hours plus a 30 minute lunch. Work locations may vary between our Echo sites in and outside of Ann Arbor.
Additional Information
This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

Required Qualifications*
- Associates Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or an equivalent combination of education and pediatric experience.
- Must be pediatric registry eligible.
- At least one year of pediatric echocardiography experience and/or graduation in the past 5 years with experience in pediatric rotations.
- Thorough knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology including congenital heart disease.
- Certification in BCLS certification is required.
- Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) will be required within 1 year of employment. Completion of an accredited formal training course including certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and pediatric experience in echocardiography.
- 3-5 years experience in echocardiography including at least one year in pediatrics.
- Candidate must have strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills necessary to work on a multidisciplinary team in a highly collaborative environment.
- Experience imaging patients in a hospital setting including intensive care units.
- Must be a self-motivated, highly dependable independent worker.
- Excellent customer service skills, particularly dealing with children and their families are required.
- Attention to detail, the ability to efficiently and effectively multitask, prioritize and problem solve are essential skills.
