Qualifications
- Valid MI K-5 Elementary Teacher Certification with at least five years of successful teaching experience
- MA in Reading/Reading Specialist endorsement
- Understanding of/experience teaching using the Science of Reading
- Communication skills and the ability to work with all stakeholders
- Monitor, support, and coach Pre K-6 teachers surrounding best practices in literacy instruction.
- Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional n goals and objectives.
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by Title I law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom, and develops reasonable expectations of classroom behavior.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Strives to maintain trust and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required, including DSIT.
- Participates in necessary training required by literacy grants (e.g. K-3 Essentials Instructional Practices Institute, Coaching Intensives, Literacy Coaching Network, etc).
- Participates in monthly coaching meetings; meets regularly with administration.
- Ongoing collaboration between ISD consultants, designated staff and building administrators at least monthly to support coaching structures, to align coaching with building goals, and encourage ongoing communication.
- Work to align curriculum, assessment and building-wide professional learning around the Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy.
- Interact with staff positively to support high performance
- Monitor and support effective teaching practices, ensuring rigor as well as relevant teaching
- Lead District Literacy PIT Crew
- Lead and oversee implementation of literacy curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Lead and oversee literacy intervention and data
- Punctual, reliable and predictable attendance
- Other duties as assigned.
