Position: Elementary Resource Room Teacher

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Special Education Supervisor, the Resource Teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by providing an optimal learning environment and managing individualized educational programming.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Develop Individualized Education Program(s) (IEPs) for students based on evaluation data and research-based practices and function as the case manager for those students.
  • Accurately complete all required components of an IEP, including present level statements, measurable goals and objectives, and documentation of progress toward goals and objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of positive behavior support plans (PBSP).
  • Provide support to general education classroom teachers.
  • Collaborate with all service providers, general education teachers, and other staff to assist in providing support and documentation for the implementation and Review of Existing Evaluation Data (REED) process.
  • Participate and support implementation of interventions in the Response to Intervention (RtI) process as appropriate.
  • Ability to teach social strategies to students to facilitate success in general education.
  • Plans, leads, and coordinates the daily work of assigned paraprofessionals and support staff to ensure effective implementation of instructional programs, IEPs, and behavior intervention plans.
  • Provides day-to-day direction, guidance, and feedback to assigned support staff regarding instructional practices, student supervision, data collection, and behavioral supports.
  • Models effective instructional and behavioral strategies
  • Collaborates with administrators to support the effective deployment, training, and utilization of paraprofessionals and other assigned staff.
  • Log and maintain monthly Service Capture reporting requirements for Medicaid Billing.
  • Participate in parent meetings, including IEPs and Parent/Teacher Conferences.
  • Integrate the creative use of technology in instruction and the classroom.
  • Establishes and maintains a functional classroom environment by establishing student behavior standards that ensure adherence to all school and district policies necessary for promoting student learning and well-being.
  • Designs and implements differentiated, challenging, and engaging instructional plans and materials for diverse student populations, utilizing varied teaching styles and current educational pedagogy to maximize learning.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective and collaborative communication with students and parents.
  • Participates in staff meetings, PLC’s and other committees as indicated.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of working with standards.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures and demonstrate competencies specified in Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of research based interventions for reading and math.
  • Knowledge of Response to Intervention.
  • Knowledge of behavior support strategies.
  • Demonstrated competency in the administration and interpretation of academic testing and development of behavior support plans.
  • Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills).

Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate.
  • Endorsement in EI, CI or LD.
  • Must meet State of Michigan Professional Development requirements.
  • EL certification or experience working with EL students preferred.
  • Training in Trauma Informed Strategies and Restorative Practices (or willingness to be trained).
  • CPI training (or willingness to be trained)

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
  • Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate.
  • Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
