Position Details

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited occupational therapy program.
  • Current Occupational Therapist license in the State of Michigan through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
  • Successful experience as a school-based Occupational Therapist, preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and requirements governing special education, including IDEA, Section 504, and the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE).
  • Familiarity of child development, school-based occupational therapy practices, and educational service delivery.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology, augmentative communication supports, and adaptive equipment.
  • Implement and support a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework through collaborative consultation and evidence-based practices.
  • Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Utilize technology effectively for documentation, data collection, communication, and service delivery.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Evaluate students to identify functional, sensory, motor, and developmental needs that affect school performance.
  • Address fine motor skills, handwriting, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, self-care skills, and classroom participation.
  • Support students’ independence with daily school activities, including organization, transitions, and self-regulation.
  • Provide strategies to improve students’ participation in academic, social, and functional school activities.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans, monitor student progress, and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Recommend and train staff and families on adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and classroom accommodations.
  • Complete all required documentation, including evaluations, IEPs, progress reports, data collection, Medicaid billing, and other compliance-related records.
  • Collaborate with special education and general education teachers to support student success.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, including progress monitoring data, service logs, and related documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to share student progress and promote the generalization of skills across settings.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal development, progress monitoring, and annual reviews.
  • Advocate for the needs and success of all students.
  • Stay current with best practices in pediatric and school-based occupational therapy through continuing education.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the administration.
