Position Details

Summary of Duties
The Athletic Director has the primary responsibility for the planning, facilitation and supervision of the high school athletic program, including the overall supervision and evaluation of coaches and their respective programs.

Reports to
High School Principal

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in administration or educational leadership preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching and coaching experience at the secondary level
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Valid teacher and school administrator certificates preferred
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements athletic program policies and procedures that promote safety and accountability for all stakeholders in compliance with local and state laws
  • Coordinates and leads the athletic program that is consistent with MHSAA and school policies/guidelines
  • Organizes, directs and promotes an athletic program that is an integral part of the total educational experience
  • Manages the athletic program budget
  • Assume responsibility for coordinating the scheduling of all conference and non-conference athletic contests
  • Assists the district and building administrator in securing competent personnel for the athletic staff, that includes coaches and game managers
  • Ensure all student-athletes have met the eligibility requirements set by DPS and the MHSAA
  • Oversees the athletic trainer and establishes procedures for the supervision and use of the training room
  • Coordinates with district and building administration, the repair and maintenance of athletic fields and facilities
  • Assists in the annual review of the athletic code of conduct and staff handbook, before making it available to student-athletes and parents
  • Attends and manages athletic events, that may be home or away during the evening and on weekends
  • In conjunction with the building principal, approves and facilitates athletic promotions and fundraising
  • Assists in developing effective and appropriate discipline strategies for student athletes directed at enforcing proper ethics and morale, that may result in discipline
  • Compiles information and statistics for the Title IX report on athletic program support and participation rate, to ensure this and other required reports are made and distributed in a timely manner
  • Implement and navigate online platforms for digital ticketing, scheduling streaming and officials
  • Oversees High School student activities accounts
  • Other duties assigned by the building principal

Work Schedule
212 work days per the DeWitt Administrators’ Association Master Agreement
Evening and weekend attendance at various events required
