The Lab Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operation of the laboratory while remaining actively engaged in hands-on calibration and technical work. This position provides technical leadership, training, and direction to the lab team while ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily laboratory workflow, priorities, scheduling, and turnaround times.
- Assign work based on customer requirements, workload, and technician capabilities.
- Perform hands-on calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of laboratory equipment.
- Assist technicians with complex calibrations and technical issues.
- Review calibration results and documentation to ensure accuracy, quality, and completeness.
- Provide day-to-day direction, technical guidance, training, and mentoring to laboratory employees.
- Monitor work quality and provide coaching and feedback as needed.
- Communicate staffing, performance, operational, and technical concerns to the VP of Calibration.
- Communicate with customers and account managers regarding equipment status, turnaround times, and technical matters.
- Support customer audits, accreditation assessments, and compliance with applicable quality standards.
- Work with Service, Sales, and other departments to resolve technical and customer-related issues.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory while promoting quality, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree in Instrumentation or related field or military calibration experience with leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience in calibration, instrumentation, scales, or a related technical field.
- Strong technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
- Previous experience providing technical leadership, training, or supervision preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, procedures, and specifications.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently while effectively leading and supporting a team.
- Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a valid CDL if required for the position.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work at a bench or workstation for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, move, and handle equipment and materials as required for laboratory operations.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and other equipment necessary to perform calibration work.
- Ability to work in various physical environments associated with laboratory and industrial equipment.
Note: This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable federal and state law. The position is expected to remain actively engaged in hands-on technical laboratory work while performing supervisory responsibilities.
Salary : $35 - $48
