Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing exceptional customer service and guiding them through check-in procedures.
- Collect patient information, verify insurance details, and update medical records accurately within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims using appropriate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding standards to ensure proper reimbursement.
- Review and process outstanding medical bills, follow up on unpaid claims, and perform collections when necessary to optimize revenue flow.
- Maintain detailed records of all billing transactions, insurance correspondence, and patient communications for compliance and audit purposes.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure accurate documentation of medical procedures, diagnoses, and coding for billing accuracy.
- Respond promptly to patient inquiries regarding billing statements or insurance issues with clear explanations and professional support.
- Stay current with evolving coding guidelines, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations to ensure compliance across all billing activities.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical billing processes including claim submission, follow-up, and collections.
- Proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, DRG classifications, and ICD coding standards.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems(MEDENT) for documentation, billing, and record management.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards.
- Ability to navigate insurance protocols effectively for claim processing and appeals.
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure accuracy in billing and record keeping.
- Effective communication skills for interacting professionally with patients, providers, insurers, and team members.
- Prior experience in a medical office environment is preferred; familiarity with medical collection practices is a plus.
