Job Summary
The Head Volleyball Coach position is a part-time position that is not benefit eligible. However, the position can be combined with a full-time classroom teaching position--in a subject area that coincides with our current needsin which case a very competitive and extensive benefit package will be included.
Essential Functions
Head Coach
- Responsible for supervising, coordinating, and supporting a staff of Upper or Middle School Assistant Coaches in conjunction with the Director of Athletics.
- Responsible for the instruction of MICDS students/athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary to meet the goals of both the MICDS Mission statement and MICDS Athletic Goals and Objectives.
- Provides instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, strong work ethic, responsibility, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, leadership, and self-confidence.
- Responsible for holding an annual meeting of players and parents to cover topics included in the athletic department pre-season meeting checklist.
- Accepts and recognizes that our athletic programs have a considerable component of public exposure and a significant influence on the entire school community. These inherent pressures are a considerable responsibility but must be kept as secondary to the objectives of good sportsmanship and life-long learning and emotional health for students.
- Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school athletic program and school community.
- Supervises practices, games, and team trips.
- Updates knowledge of technical aspects of the assigned sport and willingness to continue to learn and examine new ideas pertinent to the assigned sport or coaching in general.
- Establishes a policy with parents and players to address issues or concerns and updates the athletic director frequently during season about any issues, concerns, or highlights.
- Works with athletic director in scheduling and requirements for tournament and special sports events.
- Establishes, announces, maintains, and submits team records, statistics, and requirements for lettering.
- Maintains inventory of uniform/equipment issued.
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the Schools discretion.
If Combined with a teaching role:
Teaching
- Works with the department chair and curricular team to plan, document, evaluate and revise curriculum.
- Selects and develops related print and online course materials.
- Creates effective assessment tools to support student achievement and growth.
- Implements effective classroom management strategies to ensure a productive learning environment.
- Evaluates, documents, and communicates student progress through reporting system and conferences.
- Attends faculty, grade level and departmental meetings and supervisory duties.
- Serves as grade level advisor for 10-12 students and implements grade level programming and advisory curriculum.
- Assists and supports students outside of class as needed.
- Communicates student progress consistently with parents and guardians.
- Collaborates effectively with departmental and grade level teams as well as student support service personnel.
- Participates in the MICDS professional development framework and pursues outside opportunities to stay current with best practices.
- Serves on divisional and school-wide curriculum and program committees.
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the schools discretion.
