This position will reside in Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Special Operations Division, within the Marine Services Bureau. This position will work a 40-hour work week and will be responsible for performing skilled water safety work, while preventing accidents and injuries at various beaches operated by Miami-Dade County. This position entails working post-storm conditions or when an emergency declaration has been announced by the Mayor or Governor. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for responding to all surf rescue emergencies, rescuing, assisting, and treating patrons that are in distress. In addition, the incumbent in this position will be tasked with responding to land-based emergencies, assisting patrons as needed, and treating anyone in need while following the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue medical protocols and procedures that are established. This position will be tasked with the maintenance of apparatus (both fixed and movable), Lifeguard towers, and Ocean Rescue Headquarters. Work schedules and daily needs will be directed by the assigned MDFR Lifeguard 2, Beach Safety Manager, Marine Services Chief, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue policies & procedures. Lifeguard 1 employees are expected to perform and complete all lawful directives, daily tasks and job assignments, as directed by his/her supervisor.
